Brooks Lee's Walk-Off Lifts Minnesota Past Cleveland

Minnesota Twins 6, Cleveland Guardians 5.

Brooks Lee lashed a single past a drawn-in infield, chasing home the winning run from third and sending the Cleveland Guardians back to their hotel with a bitter loss. The Minnesota Twins stormed from their dugout to celebrate the 6-5 victory at Target Field, mobbing Lee near first base. The ninth-inning rally spoiled a pair of Cleveland home runs and handed the loss to reliever Matt Festa, who recorded only two outs before permitting the final run. The game was knotted from the fourth inning on, a grinding affair where every lead was short-lived. Cleveland landed what looked to be a heavy blow in the seventh when Rhys Hoskins launched a two-out solo home run to put his team ahead by one. But the Twins punched right back in their half of the inning. A leadoff single, a stolen base, and a sharp grounder manufactured a run that tied the score at five and set the stage for the final-frame theatrics. While Lee delivered the walk-off knock, the Twins offense was paced all evening by Kody Clemens. He finished 3-for-4 at the plate, a constant nuisance who drove in a run and kept pressure on the Guardians' pitching staff. The crucial division win was credited to Yoendrys Gómez, who pitched a scoreless top of the ninth. With the victory, Minnesota keeps pace in a tightening race, refusing to surrender ground to a direct rival.
